(E3 2012) Games to Watch

Last week was the big E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo), and with it comes new game announcements, and more details on known ones.  It was a rather lackluster showing this year, as it’s becoming quite obvious that the industry has begun to quietly focus on the next generation of consoles (PS4 / Xbox 720).  But while the truly interesting things were probably shown behind closed doors, there are still some solid games coming out in the near-future.  After the jump, you’ll find my top 10 games from E3 to keep an eye on, and some honorable mentions that also deserve your eye’s focus.  Sadly, someone decide there can only be 10, in a “Top 10”.

Keep in mind, I am primarily a PS3 and PS Vita gamer, though many of these are multi-platform.

My Top 10:

  1. Dishonored –  Trailer | Gameplay Demo | A 1st-person action game, that let’s you attack each situation however you want, through the use of a variety of powers.  Do you play stealth or action? Do you blast through the front door, sneak in an upstairs window, or possess a fish and swim in through a grate? [Seriously! Watch the gameplay demo]  Up to you.  It’s been stated that each situation has 6-10 ways of accomplishing it.  I’m playing this game 6-10 times!
  2. Assassin’s Creed III – Trailer | Gameplay Demo |  The brilliant Assassin’s Creed series finally leaves Renaissance Italy, and sets foot in The New World with a new character.  Been waiting a long while for this one!
  3. The Last of Us –  Trailer 1 | Trailer 2 | Gameplay Demo | An M-rated game from Naughty Dog, the guys behind the fantastic Uncharted series.  It appears to be a mashup of ‘I Am Legend’, ‘The Road’, ‘The Walking Dead’, and a clip they saw on ‘Planet Earth’.  I’m in!
  4. Watch Dogs – Gameplay Demo | Not much is known about this new IP from Ubisoft, but it sets up an intriguing world of conspiracy, grid hacking, and the usual dose of action.  Hack traffic lights?! Yes please!
  5. Hitman Absolution – Trailer | Stealth action at its finest.  “The Original Assassin”.
  6. Tomb RaiderTrailer | Lara Croft’s reboot looks like a proper Uncharted knockoff, and that’s a GOOD thing!
  7. Far Cry 3Trailer | The craziest 1st-person shooter since ‘The Darkness II’!  Except this is open-world, and should be quite a bit longer.
  8. Beyond: Two SoulsTrailer | Sure to be another great “interactive, branching, film-like experience” from the makers of ‘Heavy Rain’, starring Ellen Page.  I wanna see more of this stuff.
  9. Unfinished SwanTrailer | You’re in an all-white room, with a black paintball gun… Shoot paint to discover the walls and features around you, to find your way out.  Tip of the iceberg.
  10. Need for Speed: Most WantedTrailer | Gameplay Demo | The evolution of Criterion’s super-fun ‘Burnout Paradise’ & ‘NFS: Hot Pursuit’ games and Autolog system.
